Q: Earlier today you said that the President made no connection between 9/11 and Iraq. You said that there was no indication that there was a linkage at all.
MR. McCLELLAN: You're right, if you're talking specifically about the September 11th attacks, we never made that claim.
Q: Can you rule out at this point that Saddam Hussein had anything to do with 9/11, with the attacks on this country on September 11th?
MR. McCLELLAN: Terry, I think I made it very clear that we have never made that claim and I'm not saying that now. |

Q Yes, let me come back to the al Qaeda connection. So, Condi is saying that these contacts go back more than a decade; that they are continual, they are ongoing; they're involved in Baghdad, they're involved in chemical and biological weapons training. But still no evidence of a connection between Iraq and 9/11?

Rumsfeld backtracks on al-Qaida, Iraq links

Rumsfeld said that he knew of no clear link between the al-Qaida terror network and Saddam Hussein. Then he took it back. Then he said in public “To my knowledge, I have not seen any strong, hard evidence that links the two.” Then he went home to the Pentagon and said that he has said since September 2002 that there were ties between Osama bin Laden’s terror group and Iraq. Flip flop flip flop.
