Democrats Can Win If:
- We stop attacking Biden,
- Stop unnecessarily offending marginal Trump supporters, and
- Focus on getting out the vote in swing states.
That shouldn’t be so hard. In 2018, we did #3, the one that takes the most work. But it turns out the first two are most difficult. The reason of course, is the neo-radical wing of the party.
We’ll get to that, but first, why is this so important?
Since 1893, neither party has lost the Oval Office after only four years except for Jimmy Carter in 1981. During that stretch, the Republicans were in for at least eight years in a row six out of six times. And they’re going for seven out of seven.
If we manage to stop Trump, it will be a miracle.
You might think that the 2008 mid-term elections were a good sign that things will be different. But that’s not the case. In similar mid-term elections, in 1994 and 2010, the Republicans gained 54 and 64 seats respectively. And they still lost the presidency two years later. This midterm Blue Wave was quite a bit smaller than those midterm red waves. We had a net gain of only 41 House Seats. So why should we think that means we’ll take back the presidency this time?
Right now, August, 2020, Trump is struggling. But this year has been full of surprises, and you can bet on more. The economy worse than ever, but that means it could bounce back half way in October and set an all-time record for a fast recovery. Trump has a huge social media operation, will have a ton of money, and will run the worst attack ads you’ve ever seen just before the election.
To achieve a miracle
We need a good strategy. And I’m talking about a winning strategy, not a strategy for promoting some specific progressive slant. The only way to achieve any of our goals is to win. If we are not 100 percent focused on winning, we are going to lose. It’s that simple.

You might think this is kindergarten obvious, and you’re right. But Democrats are famous for forgetting all this and forming a circular firing squad. Actually, that’s not quite fair. The radical left always starts shooting first — because they think they are the most righteous, and then the rest of us duck for cover and some fire back.
