Fair Housing Violations
In April 2003, President Bush proclaimed National Fair Housing Month in commemoration of the 35th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act, formally known as Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968. Despite this written commmitment to "confronting discrimination against minorities in housing," there are still over 3.7 million fair housing violations that occur each year, according to the National Fair Housing Alliance.

Residential Segregation Persists
Roughly 65 percent of all black people would have to move in order to be evenly distributed among whites (LA Times Op-Ed). And segregation along racial lines is even more pronounced in federally assisted housing. In a recent investigation by the Dallas Morning News found that not only are "the nearly 10 million residents of federally assisted housing ... mostly segregated by race," but "virtually every predominantly white-occupied housing project was significantly superior in condition, location, services and amenities to developments that house mostly blacks and Hispanics."
