Rush Limbaugh and His Dittoheads*

Limbaugh's un-Republicans vs. The United States of America
By Steven Stoft, March 3, 2009
Limbaugh is hoping for Obama's economics to fail and for the United States to sink into another Great Depression. See for yourself. But here's the Wall St. Journal quoting Fed. Chairman Bernanke—and remember, he's George Bush's man, not Obama's:
"The recent near-term [economic] indicators show little sign of improvement," Mr. Bernanke said, citing higher levels of new jobless claims since mid-January. ... Meanwhile, businesses "have apparently cut back their plans." ... "We are better off moving aggressively today to solve our economic problems." But given the economic climate, "enormous" deficits are "unavoidable," —Mr. Bernanke

  What Rush Really Said
By Steven Stoft, March 16, 2009
One Dittohead* wrote to complain I didn't quote Rush. That's fair. So here's from the transcript on his web site:
I don't need 400 words, I need four: I hope he fails." ... I would be honored if the Drive-By Media headlined me all day long: "Limbaugh: I Hope Obama Fails."
He suggested this was like hoping that liberalism and socialism fail. But that doesn't make sense because those "Isms" don't have a plan to pull this country out of the depression we're headed for. So finally, he decided to give "a brief explanation of why" he wanted Obama to fail:
I can do more than four words.  I could say I hope he fails and I could do a brief explanation of why.  You know, I want to win.  If my party doesn't, I do. —January 16, 2009, rushlimbaugh.com
Now how would Obama's failure help Rush Limbaugh win? Rush is no dummy. He knows that if American suffers a collapse under Obama, it will likely vote him out of office and vote the Republicans back in, and maybe him too. So he literally is hoping for America to suffer tremendously to help out his political candidates. The worst sort of politics.
Think I'm exaggerating? Here's another famous Rush quote:
I shouldn't say this, but I'm going to say it anyway.  Screw the market!  Don't say it?  Okay, I'll take that back, not screw the market, but let me tell you something. When the government fails to pass a socialism bill and the market goes south, let it go south. I don't want to pass a socialism bill just to protect the stock market.   —September 29, 2008, rushlimbaugh.com.
This is pretty amazing. Rush is saying the market went south because Congress failed to pass a "socialism bill." And that's a good thing compared with passing a "socialism bill" and having the market do well. Think about what that means:
  • President Bush called the measure “a very good bill.” So he's a socialist.
  • The stock market wanted it. So, the entire investing public is socialist.
  • A socialist bill would have helped the stock market. So Rush thinks socialism works.
  • It's good to hurt the country's pensions because Rush thinks the bill is socialist.
This is not just mean spirited, it's incredibly confused. The stock market is not just a few banks. When "the market goes south" that means that most stock owners think something has just happened that is going to be bad for most of America's stocks—in other words bad for America's business. So most investors think Rush's "socialist bill" is good for business, and when it fails they think it's bad.
Rush is calling President Bush and most American stock investors and business men socialists—they all wanted that bill passed.
This makes a little more sense if we listen to Rush talk about Republicans, again on the same day he was hoping Obama would fail to keep America out of a Depression.
Reasons number 249 and 50 why I'm not a Republican ...
Rush is against Republicans too.
Now here's why I'm against Rush. Several Dittoheads have written to me, and most of them are actually pretty nice folks. But Rush gets them to hate most of the country. One called me a Nazi and a Socialist—kind of funny since the Nazis were the ones who, like Rush, most hated socialists. I don't like good American's being confused like this and filled with hate for other American's by someone who is willing to sacrifice this country because "I want to win" (politically). That's not a good way to win elections, and it's just down-right anti-America.
Think about this. He says he hopes liberalism will fail. If he knew what he was talking about, that would make no sense -- he would know liberalism would fail, and he'd say "I hope it succeeds and saves our country, but unfortunately it won't." If he were a real man about this, he'd say "Don't try it; it's a bad idea. But if it works, and saves the country, well I'll eat may hat, and say liberalism's not so bad."

* Rush calls his followers Dittoheads, and spells it like that.
