Housing Subsidies for Poor Threatened by Aid Cuts
The New York Times "On April 22, the Department of Housing and Urban Development told housing agencies that it would pay only the cost of a voucher as of last August, plus an inflation adjustment"... The resulting shortfall "may force housing agencies to freeze the number of vouchers, demand more money from tenants or do something that has never happened in Section 8's three-decade history: evict tenants from federally subsidized housing because of insufficient funding."

Evictions Averted in Section 8 Funding Gap
The Boston Globe "More than 650 low-income families were spared from eviction after state housing officials said Tuesday that they had resolved a $550,000 funding gap in a federal housing voucher program ... The federal government cut the state's allocation for Section 8 housing vouchers three weeks ago without notice."
