  The Public Housing Program
Public housing is intended to provide low-income individuals with affordable housing opportunities that are not otherwise available on the private market. There are currently over 1.3 million individuals living in public housing in the United States. Funded by the Department of Urban Development, the public housing program is managed by the 3,400 local public housing authorities across the country.

  HOPE VI
HOPE VI, which stands for Housing Opportunities for People Everywhere, provides grants for severely distressed public housing projects. The program provides grants for major rehabilitation and new construction, public housing management improvements, community services for residents, and the demolition of severely distressed public housing units.
