The Discovery of Global Warming Spencer R. Weart, Sept. 30, 2004, 240pp. • The Discovery of Global Warming The best non-technical book on global warming. Spencer Weart is a first-rate science historian with a strong science background. He tells what we know and what we don't, who is trying to mislead us and where they get their money. Amazon

The Winds of Change : Climate, Weather, and the Destruction of Civilizations Eugene Linden, February 2006, 320pp. • In Winds of Change Linden uses archaeological evidence to support a discussion of the effects of climate change on civilizations. Without hysteria, he shows how climate change causes political as well as cultural destruction. Our once benign climate appears to be changing for the worse, we will have to change too -- both to slow the change and to adapt to it. Amazon

The Hype About Hydrogen : Fact and Fiction in the Race to Save the Climate Joseph J. Romm, Sept. 1, 2005, 256pp. • The Hype about Hydrogen The best book about the H economy and the problem of replacing cheap oil. A bit dry, but Romm knows his subject like no one else and is politically savvy. Hydrogen won't break even until at least 2050. It looks like we are in for a lot of coal, but hybrid cars might make a difference. Amazon
