August 5, 2009 From today, I'm making the Carbonomics blog a little less about news and a lot more about strategy. Environmentalism has been infected by a religious belief that anything green deserves our support, unless it gets in the way of something greener.
This save having to think, and thinking is a bother. Thinking strategically is even more unpleasant. Unfortunately, our opponents, fossil companies and a few others, enjoy thinking strategically. This blog is for those who have already decided environmentalism needs a brain.
Allow me two examples. If developing countries are deeply insulted by being asked to accept a cap far below our own level of emissions, don't spend 15 years pretending they will "follow when we lead." Look for another form of substantial commitment.
If we have a billion dollar available for a green project don't pick one without looking at the price tag. The price tag for global warming projects is simply the dollars per ton of carbon saved. There are plenty more, but that's what the blog is for.
