McCain admitted guilt and returned some money—that makes up for petty corruption. But the point is policy not corruption. The 1989 S&L crisis warned of the danger of banking deregulation. McCain missed the warnings and stuck by his de-regulation advisor, Phil Gramm (It's-a-mental-recession), for 15 years—till July 2008.
McCain says that in September he finally got it—bankers need to be regulated. What do you think? Watch for Phil Gramm in the video. More on Phil Gramm

The Democratic party's Energy Policy position
|
|
| |
This appears to be the only Party-wide energy policy. It is from "Real Security, The Democratic Plan to Protect America and Restore Our Leadership in the World," March 29, 2006. Dean reiterated the 2020 goal on July 4, 2006. (More democratic energy policies) (Party site )
Energy Independence
To Free America from Dependence on Foreign Oil, we will:
Achieve energy independence for America by 2020 by eliminating reliance on oil from the Middle East and other unstable regions of the world.
Increase production of alternate fuels from America’s heartland including bio-fuels, geothermal, clean coal, fuel cells, solar and wind; promote hybrid and flex-fuel vehicle technology and manufacturing; enhance energy efficiency and conservation incentives.

Problems with the Democratic Energy Policy Position:
1. Independence by 2020 is, for practical purposes, impossible.
2. Stopping imports from countries we don't trust, will not protect us--it's a world market.
3. Fuel cells are not an "alternative fuel."
4. "Clean coal" would be 800 pound guerrilla in this mix, and normally this does not mean capturing the CO2, only cleaning up sulfur, NOx and particulates. If this is what they mean, their policy will make global warming worse, not better, becuase coal contains more carbon per unit of energy than does oil. Nuclear would probably be better.
