The Democrats' Energy Policy

  The Democratic Party's Energy Policy
promises to "Achieve energy independence for America by 2020 by eliminating reliance on oil from the Middle East and other unstable regions of the world." But all our imports are bought at the same world price of oil no matter who we buy from. If the Saudi's raise the price of oil it hurts us just the same. (more details.)

  Clinton's Energy Policy:
"Just one terminal in Saudi Arabia handles about one out of every 12 barrels of the world's oil exports. That's enough to trigger a new crisis beyond the scale of the 1970s if it were cut off. One terrorist attack has already been foiled there, and other threats have been made.  ...  Every penny increase in gas prices costs U.S. airlines $180 million. Now, imagine what will happen if, as predicted, costs continue to double every five years." (continued)    (5/23/06 speech)

  Barak Obama's Energy Policy:
We should use a market-based strategy that gradually reduces harmful emissions in the most economical way. John McCain and Joe Lieberman are continuing to build support for legislation based on this approach, (continued)   ( speech 4/3/06)

Pelosi's Energy Policy: "Energize America with energy independence."
"Achieve energy independence in 10 years by developing emerging technologies for clean and sustainable alternatives that will strengthen national security and protect the environment." So far, not much substance.

  Boxer's Energy Policy
The following is the only energy-policy statement on Boxer's web site.
Wednesday, June 21, 2006.  MAKE AMERICA ENERGY INDEPENDENT: America's lack of a coherent energy policy is weakening national security, hurting our pocketbooks, violating our common values and threatening our children's future. The Strategic Energy Fund bill will cut our dependence on foreign oil in half by 2025, invest in efficient energy alternatives and create good American jobs. We challenge the Republican Congress to pass the Strategic Energy Fund bill. (2001 Biomass legislation.)
