9th Circuit Judge Strikes Down Piece of Patriot Act 
The 9th Circuit Court has struck down provisions of the Patriot Act describing the banning of certain types of support for terrorist groups as "so vague that it risked running afoul of the First Amendment."

Patriot Act II Provisions Slipped into Other Bills
... "Rather than abandoning the legislation [Patriot Act II] altogether, the department has been extracting provisions and having sympathetic lawmakers slip them one by one into new bills to pass the legislation piecemeal." The Anti-Terrorism Intelligence Tools Improvement Act of 2003 (HR 3179) includes four sections that were originally included in Patriot Act II.

Computer student on trial for aiding Muslim web sites (k File)
A Saudi computer student is on trial in Boise, Idaho, charged under the Patriot Act for aiding terrorists by maintaining Muslim web sites. The Federal District court in Los Angeles court has overturned that provision in the Patriot Act as "overly broad and vague."
